PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim became the winner of the XIII All-Russian competition "Leader of Environmental Activities in Russia-2017" in the nomination "For Environmental Responsibility". It was held in Moscow, in the framework of the sixth International Forum "Human Health and Ecology-2017."
The Company provided detailed information on its activities in the field of environmental protection and environmental management, including information on the implementation of the environmental program, participation in the state and municipal environmental projects. As a result, experts highly assessed the environmental performance of the Company.
It is to be recalled that the "Leader of environmental activities" contest is always hold with a view to public encouragement of Companies for active work in the field of environmental protection and rational nature management, contributing to the sustainable development of the Russian economy, improving public health and ensuring environmental security of the country. Its organizer is the International Forum "Assistance to Modernization and Innovation in Russia" and ANO "The World of Active Longevity."
In 2017, Ethylene Plant of Nizhnekamskneftekhim achieved prominent results in production of ethylene (over 613 kt), benzene (over 216 kt) and divinyl (over 70 kt).
Ethylene is a main feedstock for different applications. It is used in Nizhnekamskneftekhim, and transferred via ethylene pipeline to Kazan and to the Republic of Bashkortostan. Internally ethylene is utilized as a feedstock for dozens grades of polyethylene, ethylene oxide and ethylene glycol.
Nizhnekamskneftekhim produced its first product ethylene on June 21, 1976. Ethylene Plant was and remains a unique production unit in Russia and has no analogues for the moment. It shall be mentioned that the plant was erected at a record pace - installation of major equipment took only 14 months. First revamp of EP-450 was finished in 1981. And after seven years, it was revamped for a second time (1988 – 1992). Conducted revamp allowed increasing ethylene capacity from 450 to 485 kta. By 2012 Ethylene capacity was enhanced up to 600 kta as a result of sequential modernizations. In July 2017 total ethylene output reached 17 million tones since start up.
Currently, grand construction project for plant expansion by two Cracking Heaters is almost finished. As a result Nizhnekamskneftekhim will gain both increase of ethylene and propylene output and renovation of obsolete equipment, which was erected in the early days of the plant. Heaters installation is accompanied by construction of pipe rack, which will play a role of a bridge between heaters and a core unit.
Trade union together with Nizhnekamskneftekhim discussed results of previous period and approved new Bargaining Agreement in the frames of Staff Conference held on January 22, 2018. This Bargaining Agreement is valid for three years (2018 – 2020). It is got to be the first time in the history of Nizhnekamskneftekhim.
General Director, Azat Bikmurzin, opened the Conference with Report on Company’s Business and Financial Performance in the previous year.
2017 was marked by 50th Anniversary of the first product output and excellent performance: enhanced production rate, 162 bln. RUB of sales revenue, 102% - quantum index, 50% - export share. Company shipped 704 kT of synthetic rubbers (5% more compared to previous year). 83% of them were exported under long-term agreements. Plastic’s shipments made up 700 kT in 2017. In the frames of diversification and improvement of sales performance, shipments of LLDPE for stretch film production were increased by 70 kT. This product almost substituted import analogues among Russian consumers.
Also, 2017 was commemorated by strengthening of partners relations, supported by new long-term agreements with abroad tire companies.
Targets were set and accomplished with respect to enhancement of product output. In 2017, Nizhnekamskneftekhim produced 1 millionth ton of halobutyl rubber, 4 millionth ton of isoprene and 17 millionth ton of ethylene. Synthetic Rubber Plant achieved its maximum output – over 183 kT of SKDN rubber. Styrene and Polyether Resins Plant also broke a record by production of over 305 kT of styrene.
Such results would be impossible without timely modernization and revamp. All plants underwent scheduled overhaul accompanied by retrofitting and replacement of obsolete equipment.
In 2017, as before, Company gave attention to development of new plastics grades, for instance, molded grade of PP for packaging, PE for high impact sleeve film and laminated film, several grades of HIPS and GPPS with reduced content of residual styrene for food articles.
Startup of New Formaldehyde Plant under Formox license became a significant event for Nizhnekamskneftekhim in the previous year. Finishing of works on retrofitting of isoprene and isobutylene production is expected in the nearest time under the Program on expansion of Isoprene Rubber capacities (SKI-3).
Nizhnekamskneftekhim continues its work on New Ethylene Complex under Strategic Development Program. It is expected to be the Biggest Project in Russia. In 2017, Contract for engineering works was awarded to Linde AG, a world-leading gases and engineering company. According to the contract, under Early Works stage, Linde AG performed Environmental and Social Impact Assessment. Compliance with Environmental and Social requirements is one of mandatory creditor’s requirements.
Company’s Top Priority is utilities saving. In 2017, Nizhnekamskneftekhim developed and implemented 55 energy-efficiency measures, which saved 93,000 Gkal of heat energy, 14 mln. kW*h of electricity and 1,000 T of equivalent fuel.
Environment protection is also among Top Priority issues of Nizhnekamskneftekhim. Previous year was a Year of Ecology in Russia. Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment of the Russian Federation, Federal Supervisory Natural Resources Management Service, Government of the Republic of Tatarstan and Nizhnekamskneftekhim made Four-party Agreement, indicating Environmental measures to be implemented under EcoYear. All measures provided in the Agreement were successfully implemented: 16,000 m3 of sludge was removed from buffer pond on Tungucha river, three cooling towers were revamped and seventeen water towers were repaired. These measures allowed to reduce energy consumption by 907,000 kW*h per year.
Under II stage of Biological Treatment Plant Reconstruction, Primary Treatment Unit is undergoing revamping, which will be finished in 2018. It will certainly increase treatment quality of waste water and eliminate off-flavour.
In 2018, Nizhnekamskneftekhim will start stage wise construction of 14 km sewer for chemically polluted wastes. This sewer will increase transfer reliability of wastes from industrial area to BTP.
Nizhnekamskneftekhim increases its environmental efficiency; in particular, in 2017 Company reduced waste waters amount by 3.2 mln m3 and wastes generation by 12 kT compared to previous year.
Nizhnekamskneftekhim continuously improves its activity in the field of Health, Safety and Environmental issues. 62 measures scheduled under program “On improvement of labor conditions and mitigation of occupational risks” were fully implemented. Every year Company’s management and Trade Union conclude Health and Safety Agreement, according to which 31 measures were implemented in the previous year. As a result more than 3 thousand employees got better working environment. The Agreement for 2018 envisages 40 additional measures.
In 2017, for prevention of occupational diseases, over 10,000 people attended medical examination. Deep medical examination was organized for 1,000 employees, who are working in harmful environment.
From the early days Company has been providing a high level of social welfare. All business incentives are directed to engagement of the best talents. Last year, Company successfully provided comfortable housing for employees. In 2017, employees got 757 apartments with gross area of 43,276 m2, including 157 apartments under social mortgage and 604 apartments under additional housing program, which has been effective since 2015. For the period 1,400 families got apartments in 47th and 49th districts of Nizhnekamsk.
151 buses convey workers of Nizhnekamskneftekhim to industrial area and back, using 10 special routes. From the August 1, 2017 route No.7 also covered new 47th district, starting from F. Tabeeva street.
To ensure stable availability of skilled personnel, company developed a system of internal training and professional advancement. In 2017, 12,743 employees received training, including 9,113 workers. In off-work hours 1,038 employees received training in different educational institutions, 187 employees gained a Diploma of Higher Education, and all of them got study leaves.
Also, Company successfully practices health care activities. Nizhnekamskneftekhim annually allocates funds on health resort treatment of personnel and their children on the base of health and recreation resort “Korabelnaya Roshcha” and recreation area “Dubravushka”. In 2017, company employees got 2,148 vouchers, veterans got 509 vouchers, and children got 670 vouchers. 1523 children had a rest in camp “Yunost” and “Olympiec” during summer holidays.
Average salary made up 49 thousand rubles in 2017. It was timely paid-off in accordance with terms specified in Bargaining Agreement.
In the accounting period 579 employees get a title “Honorary worker”.
Nizhnekamskneftekhim takes a part in all programs at the level of Republic of Tatarstan and Nizhnekamsk, supporting professional sport activities, renaissance of historical and cultural monuments in cooperation with Tatarstan Historical and Cultural Foundation. Lots of efforts are contributed to improvement of city facilities. 50th anniversary of Company became a great municipal holiday. In the early days and up to now, Nizhnekamskneftekhim was and is the company in a one-company town.

Due to harmonious activities and close collaboration of Company management, Trade Union and staff, all social commitments were implemented in full scope. Delegates of Staff Conference considered Bargaining Agreement for 2017 as a fully performed.
New Bargaining Agreement for 2018-2020, which was signed in the presence of conference delegates by Azat Bikmurzin, General Director, and Adip Abdullin, Chairman of Trade union, retains all social benefits indicated in the Agreement for 2017.
