Airport "Begishevo is named after Nikolai Lemaev, the first General Director of Nizhnekamskneftekhim

The name of the first General Director of Nizhnekamskneftekhim, Nikolai Lemaev, is now officially given to Begishevo, International Airport in Nizhnekamsk. The respective order was signed today by Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation. The document includes 43 more airports of Russia that are assigned names of eminent persons known for special services to the Fatherland.

The competition for new names of airports "Great Names of Russia" was held from October to December 2018. The names for the airports were chosen by popular vote. Over 67 000 people voted for Begishevo Airport, 47% of them chose the name of Nikolai Lemaev.

It is fitting that the name of Nikolai Lemaev was given to airport Begishevo in the year of the celebration of his anniversary - the 90th anniversary of his birth. His name is associated with the Nizhnekamsk Petrochemical Plant and the city of Nizhnekamsk coming into being and developing, where he invested not only knowledge and great efforts, but also a part of his generous support. Nikolai Lemaev held the post of General Director of the Production Enterprise “Nizhnekamskneftekhim” from 1963 to 1985. He was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor for his enormous contribution to the foundation of one of the largest petrochemical complexes in the Soviet Union and Europe. Later he was invited to the Government of the USSR to the post of Minister of the Oil Refining and Petrochemical Industry. In 1999, he was offered by Mintimer Shaimiev, the President of Tatarstan, to take charge of the Board of Directors of Nizhnekamskneftekhim JSC and he became an adviser to the Head of the Republic on the issues of the petrochemical complex.

Nikolai Lemaev died on 24 December 2000 in Moscow. He was buried at the Troyekurovsky cemetery. In 2001, a bust monument was installed to Lemaev in Nizhnekamsk at the square named after him.

PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim is one of the largest petrochemical producers in Eastern Europe. It occupies leading positions among domestic manufacturers of synthetic rubbers, plastics and ethylene. Nizhnekamskneftekhim is a part of TAIF Group of Companies. The company was founded in 1967. Its principal facilities are located in Nizhnekamsk, the Republic of Tatarstan. The company’s portfolio includes more than 120 products, which are exported to 50 countries of Europe, America and Southeast Asia. Exports constitute about 50% of total output volume.
