There have been commenced works on steam boilers installation at Nizhnekamskneftekhim EP-600 Complex under construction. The boilers are designed to generate high-pressure steam from treated river water which will be supplied to turbine drives of Plant compressors and pumps and will provide heating of heat-exchangers. The unique nature of this equipment is that it will allow to ensure complete self-sufficiency of the Complex as for primary heat utilities.
All in all, there will be mounted three steam boilers weighing 150 tons each. As of today, the specialists have already installed two boilers. Currently the preparatory activities for third boiler installation are in progress. The process involves co-workers of the new complex itself and contracting organizations, as well as several units of special vehicles and unique lifting devices.
Upon boilers’ installation on the foundation, the specialists will directly commence assembling metal structures of service platforms and piping hook-up of the equipment. Completion of all works is scheduled by the end of 2020.
In November, Nizhnekamskneftekhim increased output of liquid oxygen which is then adjusted to the medical grade by a partner company and sent to RT hospitals. Feed for oxygen, vitally required and used to treat patients with severe form of coronavirus infection, is produced at the nitrogen-oxygen station (NOS) of Oligomers & Glycols Plant (OGP). At present, daily production of liquid service oxygen at the station makes up to 30 tons.
NOS was put into operation in 1985 and comprises 4 units designed for production of oxygen and air separation by-products – gaseous oxygen and nitrogen, liquid oxygen and nitrogen, as well as liquid argon through deep cooling method and dual rectification followed by output of gaseous nitrogen and gaseous oxygen after compression to a consumer.
Gaseous oxygen is mainly applied for own demands of OGP - for ethylene oxide production. Gaseous nitrogen serves to create inert atmosphere during production, storage and transportation of easily oxidized products and during high-temperature processes of metals treatment, for preservation of closed metal vessels and piping.
Liquid oxygen is basically applied for cutting metals after its gasification. Liquid nitrogen is industrially used as a cooling agent.
Liquid argon is applied at welding, cutting and melting of active and rare metals and alloys based on such metals, aluminum, aluminum and magnesium alloys, stainless nickel-chromium heat-resistant alloys and alloyed steels of different grades and also at refining metals in metallurgy.
There have been commenced installation of main process equipment - cracking furnaces - at new Nizhnekamskneftekhim Grassroots EP-600 Ethylene Production Complex. Currently the mounting of radiant sections’ panels is in progress involving dozens of co-workers and special lifting devices.
Assembling of panels is a labor-consuming process that takes several months. The next stage will be mounting of the modules of furnaces’ convection part, installation of service platforms and supporting metal structures for additional equipment, piping hook-up, placement of control instruments and electric equipment – all these are required for full-rate operation of the furnace. The height of each furnace will make 60 meters.
All in all, new EP-600 Complex will have 6 cracking furnaces installed – five of them will be in operation, one – on stand-by. As specialists note, there are no any similar equipment in Tatarstan: in comparison with furnaces at existing Ethylene Plant of the Company, these furnaces feature higher performance. The distinction of their structure is that they have two radiant sections and one common convention part. This allows using different types of raw material during furnace operation. Thus, for example, ВА004, ВА005 and ВА006 furnaces have possibility of simultaneous operation with gasoline feed as well as with recycle flows of ethane and propane.
Besides, upcoming furnaces are equipped with the newest type of burner devices which let cutting down harmful emissions into the atmosphere. Furnaces will have the opportunity for remote switching from operation mode to decoking mode and further transfer into hot downtime (stand-by).
In future furnaces will become an integral part of the shop designed for cracking of hydrocarbon raw material and fractionation. Start-up of new Ethylene Complex is scheduled for 2023.

In order to check operation of process equipment at Nizhnekamskneftekhim there has been implanted an information system “Mobile round check”. This innovation has been already tested at Butadiene Production Unit, the next one will be new SSBR Plant.
“Mobile round check” is a project created by IT Division specialists of Nizhnekamskneftekhim and launched within works under the system of process equipment maintenance and repair. This system lets to make the plant operability control easier as well as to eliminate promptly malfunction, if any. As a rule, shop personnel is assigned to perform round check of process units several times per shift.
Once the new information system has been implemented, the operators fulfil check round with a special mobile device, wherein route chart has several obligatory points to be reached and checked by reading a set up NFC-mark, i.e. a kind of electronic code. With the help of the above mobile device, a worker has the possibility to identify equipment state or remarks which are immediately sent to a dispatch operator of a responsible department– Equipment Maintenance Division or Automation Center.
Besides, the system allows to make photo fixation of defects and to track deviations from rated parameters of equipment operation.
- Mobile round checks are necessary to respond promptly at early stages in case of any malfunctions. Early identification of a defect means to have the possibility for advance scheduling of required repair works which finally improves the enterprise economics. Round checks help to collect statistics on operational condition of equipment, including stationary gages of temperature, vibration installed at the equipment or by using mobile diagnostic devices. It is easier to set up various parameters at the new equipment than at the existing production plant. But we are far advanced in solving this issue, having developed system of collecting statistics and analyses –within a pilot project by now, – said Marat Khuziev, Head of Project Group for Maintenance and Repair.
